Basic Life Support Certification
(CPR Included)

At Center For Hope SI, we are driven by a deep conviction that the health and well-being of a community are directly linked to its preparedness in times of crisis. Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) training play a pivotal role in empowering individuals and transforming communities into safe havens where lives can be saved and futures preserved.

Here are the reasons our BLS and CPR training improves our community.

Immediate Response to Emergencies

In the critical moments following a sudden cardiac arrest or other life-threatening emergencies, every second counts. BLS and CPR training equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to initiate immediate response actions, ensuring that life-sustaining measures are initiated until professional medical help arrives. By providing essential care during this crucial window, BLS and CPR increase survival rates and minimize long-term health complications.

Availability in Any Setting

Emergencies can occur anywhere, whether at home, work, school, or public spaces. By promoting BLS and CPR training, we enable community members to become first responders in their own right. Imagine the profound impact when a trained individual, amidst a crowded marketplace or at a family gathering, steps forward to administer CPR. The accessibility of trained individuals in various settings vastly improves the chances of survival and minimizes the devastating consequences of medical emergencies.

Empowering Every Citizen

In the face of an emergency, anyone can make a difference. BLS and CPR training instills confidence and equips individuals, irrespective of their background or profession, with the ability to intervene effectively. From concerned parents and educators to dedicated employees and compassionate neighbors, when equipped with BLS and CPR skills, every citizen becomes an essential link in the chain of survival. This empowerment strengthens community bonds and brightens overall resilience.

Brightening Public Health Outcomes

Communities that prioritize BLS and CPR training witness tangible improvements in public health outcomes. By increasing survival rates and reducing the incidence of long-term disabilities resulting from medical emergencies, we create healthier and more vibrant communities. A well-prepared community has the potential to thrive economically, socially, and emotionally as individuals and families feel secure in their ability to protect and support one another.

Basic Life Support and CPR training are catalysts for change, transforming communities into beacons of preparedness, compassion, and resilience. By emphasizing the importance of these life-saving skills, we elevate the health and well-being of our community; one empowered individual at a time.

Center For Hope SI is dedicated to promoting BLS and CPR training as integral components of community health, knowing that together, we can save lives, preserve futures, and build a stronger, more compassionate society. This is why we offer a low-cost comprehensive Basic Life Support course that includes CPR for infants, children, adults, and pregnant women. Cardiac Arrest and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training.

PreLoved Shop

The PreLoved Shop is a community thrift store and the first initiative of Center For Hope SI. It was established during the COVID-19 pandemic to meet the needs of our community However, it has since grown to provide for the larger community and has become an integral part of the neighborhood.

The PreLoved Shop accepts donations of gently used clothing, furniture, and other household items from members of the community. These items are then made available at a very low cost or free to those who are in need.

By offering preloved items, we ensure that individuals from all backgrounds can access quality products without straining their budgets. This not only promotes sustainable consumption but also addresses the issue of waste by extending the lifespan of clothing and other items.

We also understand the barriers individuals face when seeking employment, particularly when it comes to appropriate attire for job interviews and work. As part of our workforce development initiative, we will provide individuals with access to professional clothing at low or no cost, helping to ease this barrier and increase their chances of securing employment. This approach not only benefits individuals but also contributes to building a stronger and more resilient community.

The PreLoved Shop also supports other various charitable causes. For example, we have partnered with local organizations to provide clothing and household items to those in need.

Overall, the PreLoved Shop is an exceptional example of a community-driven program that is making a positive impact on the lives of individuals in the community. It has created a sense of belonging, support, and sustainability within the community, and it is clear that its impact will continue to grow and thrive in the years to come.

We will also brighten the community through upcoming workshops focused on waste reduction, sustainability, and empowerment. Our approach is guided by the need for systemic change, and we believe that by providing affordable resources, fostering community engagement, empowering individuals through workshops, and raising awareness about social determinants, we can make a significant positive impact. Currently the Pre-Loved Shop has also implemented sustainable practices in its operations, such as encouraging customers to bring their bags. This commitment to sustainability not only helps to reduce the shop’s environmental impact but also aligns with the values of the community.

In addition to providing free resources, the PreLoved Shop will host a series of workshops that address various issues related to waste, sustainability, and personal development. Our workshops will cover topics such as budgeting, repurposing thrifted items, clothing repair, fashion styling, home organization, job skills, and community resource awareness. By offering these workshops, we empower individuals with practical knowledge and skills that can benefit them personally while promoting sustainability practices. To stay informed about our activities and upcoming workshops, we encourage everyone to visit our events page.

The PreLoved Shop has a team of dedicated volunteers who help with the day-to-day operations of the store. These volunteers sort through donations and assist visitors. The shop has become a hub for the community, providing not only affordable items but also a welcoming and supportive environment. If you are interested in volunteering at or donating items to Center For Hope SI’s PreLoved Shop, please contact us at (718) 926-0289.

Community Giveaways

Center For Hope SI’s community giveaway events are geared to assist marginalized groups within our community. These events play a vital role in addressing social determinants of health by tackling issues such as food insecurity, food deserts, and lack of appropriate clothing and personal care products. By providing essential resources, these giveaways ensure that individuals have access to nutritious food, thereby improving their physical well-being.

Access to appropriate clothing and personal care products helps boost self-confidence and enables individuals to pursue job opportunities and send their children to school feeling nourished and prepared, ultimately fostering a sense of dignity and empowerment within the community.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Distribution to Community During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Center for Hope SI collaborated with Hope Home Care Inc.  and Staten Island COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) to distribute over 37,000 pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and COVID-19 test kits to the Staten Island community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The partnership started between the organizations to alleviate the shortage of PPE in the community. Center for Hope SI and Hope Home Care Inc. became a hub for the distribution of PPE to other Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and the most vulnerable in the community.

PPE which included face masks, face shields, hand sanitizers, sanitizing wipes, COVID-19 test kits, and educational materials was distributed to the most vulnerable populations, such as seniors, essential workers, and individuals with disabilities.

The initiative was a success, and it demonstrates the importance of community partnerships and highlights the significant impact that organizations can make in the community when they come together for a common cause.
